Video: "I Just Want To Ride - Lael Wilcox and the 2019 Tour Divide"

Lael Wilcox loves the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route.

She loves the climbing. Its pass after pass. She loves the roads. They’re not too technical. She loves the landscapes. Traveling from Canada to Mexico, all on your bike. The Tour Divide, it’s her kind of race and she’s done it twice before.

The 2019 edition was set to be truly unique as she attempted to be the first woman to be the overall winner of the race. But would the weather cooperate? Would the race and route play out as it had in her previous attempts?

Follow along as Lael takes on the most notable bikepacking route in the world and has to overcome natural and human barriers to embrace the true reasons for why she rides and inspires others to ride. Go Lael.

Take the ACTIVATE Survey for NOACA's new Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan

The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) last updated a plan for bicycle transportation in the Northeast Ohio region in 2013. This plan provided a vision for increasing the use of bicycles for transportation and commuting, while serving as a guide for developing bicycle infrastructure and included a priority bikeway system that showed where bikeway facilities should be built.

In late 2019, NOACA began the process of creating a new bicycle and pedestrian plan, called ACTIVATE. As with all of NOACA's projects, the planning process will include significant opportunity for public involvement to best determine the plan's objectives, needs and goals.

The first phase of this public involvement includes a public survey. This survey should take around 10 minutes to complete. Respondents will remain anonymous. NOACA staff will use your feedback to ensure that ACTIVATE addresses the issues that affect you. We will be sharing the results of the survey in the plan.

Additional phases of the planning process, including public meetings, will be announced in early 2020.

Fairview Park man gets stolen bicycle replaced

In the past couple of weeks, there have been many news stories and social media posts about a local Fairview Park, Ohio man who had his bicycle stolen. He works at Marc's and Savers in Rocky River, and the bicycle was his only transportation to work.

Thanks to generous donors through GoFundMe, Jon came to the Century Cycles store in Rocky River to replace his bicycle, and chose this Giant Talon 2 in Orange - the same color as his old bike!

Yes, we gave him a GREAT deal on the bike, as well as on a Giant U-Lock and a NiteRider Headlight/Taillight set!

Ride on, Jon!

Bicycle touring visitor warms up in Peninsula during snowstorm

With what could possibly be the latest bicycle-touring visitor we've ever had in a season, Kurt stopped into the Century Cycles store in Peninsula today (Tuesday, November 12, 2019) to warm up after getting stuck in our first snowstorm of the season! He left Cincinnati on Monday, November 4 and has been riding the Ohio to Erie Trail towards Cleveland, camping along the way.

Although we have to say that our toughest bike touring visitors were still Wilson and his chihuahua Polo, who were riding through the area in single-digit temperatures back in January of 2014!

You can see photos of bike touring visitors in all three of our stores in our Bicycle Touring Photo Gallery.
