All rides begin and end at Buckeye Woods Park, 6335 Wedgewood Lane in Medina.

Night Ride on the Towpath Trail with Conservancy for CVNP - Sat. Aug. 10, 2019

Century Cycles invites you to our next Night Ride on the Towpath Trail! Experience the most popular bike trail in Northeast Ohio in a new way -- in the dark!

When: Saturday, August 10, 2019
Where: Century Cycles, 1621 Main Street, Peninsula, OH  44264

We suggest that you plan to arrive in Peninsula around 7:00pm to have plenty of time to find parking, get yourself and your bike ready, sign in, and enjoy the pre-ride activities.

We'll be joined by the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the non-profit partner of CVNP. The bike ride is FREE as usual, but anyone who makes a donation to or joins the Conservancy will be entered into our raffle for great prizes!

The Conservancy for CVNP supports our national park with events, educational programs, and maintaining trails and facilities, including the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and the East Rim Mountain Bike Trails.

We'll draw for prizes at 7:45pm, then the ride will start promptly at 8:00pm.

The ride is entirely on the car-free Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. We'll ride SOUTH from Peninsula to the Botzum Trailhead and back, about 14 miles total. You can turn around sooner if you don't want to ride the entire distance.

You must have your own bicycle, helmet, and headlight. All ages are welcome with an adult parent or guardian. No pre-registration is necessary.

If you've never been on one of our Night Rides on the Towpath Trail before, go to www.centurycycles.com/for/NightRides for complete details, including our full schedule of rides, directions, preparation and safety tips, and photos from past rides.

In memory of John Moss

The Century Cycles family lost one of our longest and most beloved members recently. John Moss passed away on July 4th, 2019. John was the father of Century Cycles co-founder Lois Moss, and remained fast friends with Century Cycles owner Scott Cowan. You can read his obituary here.

John took up bicycling after retirement, and, never to do anything halfway, he likely pedaled more miles over his lifetime than our whole staff combined. He biked across the USA at least five times, including a trip through the Yukon that ended in Anchorage, Alaska. His final long-distance trip with his daughter Lois was across North Dakota in 2014.

We join John's family and friends in mourning John and treasuring our many shared memories. Please keep them in your thoughts.

A memorial fund has been set up to honor John Moss with a sponsored map panel on the Lewis & Clark Trail, a bicycling route from Illinois to the Oregon coast maintained by the Adventure Cycling Association. You can make a donation at:

My the wind always be at your back, John!

E-Bikes now allowed on the Towpath Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park

We at Century Cycles have just received word from officials within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park that they are updating their policy on the use of electric bicycles on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail within the park.

Effective immediately (July 2, 2019), Class 1 and Class 2 electric bicycles are now allowed to be used on the Towpath Trail within the CVNP without restrictions. No special permit is required. Class 3 electric bicycles are NOT allowed on the Towpath Trail.

This policy is consistent with similar policies adopted by neighboring park jurisdictions. Classes of electric bicycles are defined in the recently-enacted law in the state of Ohio:
  • Class 1 electric bicycle means a bicycle that is equipped with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 miles per hour.
  • Class 2 electric bicycle means a bicycle that is equipped with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts that may provide assistance regardless of whether the rider is pedaling and is not capable of providing assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 20 miles per hour.
  • Class 3 electric bicycle means a bicycle that is equipped with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches the speed of 28 miles per hour.
No electric bicycles are allowed on the East Rim Mountain Bike Trails.

Stop into our Medina and Rocky River stores to see our full selection of electric bicycles, including the Giant LaFree E+2, Giant Quick E+, and Electra Townie Go 8D!
