Legendary musician, author and avid bicyclist David Byrne has just issued the audio book version of Bicycle Diaries and has partnered with Century Cycles to help spread the word in the bicycling community. A banner ad for the audio book, which (along with a limited edition t-shirt) is only
available online, can be seen on
our website home page. We are also one of only 24 bike shops worldwide that are listed on Byrne's website in thanks for our support.
Byrne released Bicycle Diaries last year and it chronicles his lifetime and discoveries made while traveling the world on a bicycle. The audio book has plenty of music (much of it by Byrne himself) and he does the narration. On
his website, you can download the introduction for free or buy a chapter ($2.49 each), the complete audio book ($19.95), or the audio book and the t-shirt ($29.95).

David Byrne is probably most famous for being the lead singer of Talking Heads, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland in 2002. As we discussed how cool Byrne is and how honored we are to help him spread the good bike word, Petch recalled these lyrics from the band's song "
Hey Now" from "
True Stories."
I wanna bicycle
I wanna popsicle
I wanna space face
Buy me a cherry face now
Very cool.
Update: The website Boing Boing has an excerpt from Bicycle Diaries featuring audio soundscapes chosen by Byrne to reflect his memory of each locale. Go to:

That's awesome. I knew Century was a stellar shop. Of course their marketing person has a lot to do with that. I need to hire you, Tracey, for my own work. Great job!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, but it's a CC team effort -- you'd have to hire all 35 of us if you want the same results!
