Bike lane debate in today's Plain Dealer

The front page of today’s Plain Dealer featured this article: “Bicycling advocates collide on the merits of bike lanes.” It’s a hot topic around town today, especially if you read all the comments to the online edition.

At Century Cycles, we believe in two things: (1) Everyone should remember to share the road and (2) bike lanes/paths increase bicycling use – and that’s what we’re all about. So play nice out there, folks. We’re all in this together.

  1. Amen. This sparked a huge debate in my bike club and I'm shocked by how many cyclist oppose bike lanes as if that is going to disable cycling on the road instead of enabling it. I lived in Colorado... the bike lanes increased use of bikes and encouraged motorists to be aware of cyclists on the road. They had a GREAT cycling community out there that I very much miss out here in Ohio... We need to band together and not shoot ourselves in the foot constantly. I, for one, would LOVE bike lanes installed along EVERY busy street... Can we start with Stow?? Then Streetsboro?? (I've been afraid to go through Streetsboro on one of my 25 mile routes for months because the motorists have just gotten scarier and scarier...)
