I had the same reaction to the fact that t...I know. I had the same reaction to the fact that they were using that funky old gear... I was actually doubly impressed that they could do it with what I had deemed "inferior" bikes... We must be living the easy life in comparison, with our light bikes and better technology. It just makes me realize that it takes more than equipment to complete a long ride: It takes will and stamina.
