An impromptu bike camping overnight in Peninsula

Chris, Ryan, and I (Kevin) from the Century Cycles store in Peninsula did an impromptu bike camping overnight last night; think of it as a dry-run for our Bike Camp-Out Night Ride on the Towpath Trail on June 4.

I packed up the same set of gear that I'll be using on the June 4 ride:

  • Bike shorts
  • Long-sleeve jersey
  • Spare socks
  • Toothbrush kit
  • Camp pillow
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Headlamp
  • Tent
  • Chain lock
  • Bike shoes
  • Water bottle
  • Bike glvoes
  • Helmet
  • Sunglasses
  • Bike GPS
  • Headlight
  • Taillight
  • Road ID
We closed up the store at 8:00pm, headed next door to The Winking Lizard for a quick dinner, then hopped on our bikes and headed south on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. We arrived at the camp site around 11:00pm, set up our tents, and hit the sack.

We woke up around 6:45am this morning, packed up our tents and gear, and headed back north. We stopped for breakfast at the Valley Cafe, and arrived back in Peninsula just in time to open the shop back up.

Join us for our Bike Camp-Out Night Ride on the Towpath Trail on June 4! It's FREE, and it's to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Adventure Cycling Association and National Bike Travel Weekend! For complete details on the event, including a registration form, go to:

  1. Very cool idea. As an Ambassador for Adventure Cycling for both National Bike Travel Weekend and Bike Your Park (Sept 24), I'm tickled that MY shop is active in promoting these events!
