Towpath Trail CLOSED for construction of Buckeye XL Pipeline

PLEASE NOTE: Until further notice, the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail is CLOSED to all foot and bicycle traffic. This is due to the construction of the new Buckeye XL oil pipeline.

Ownership of the Towpath Trail corridor was transferred to BS Oil Company as a last-minute provision of a bill signed into law by President Obama on March 26, the "Consolidated and Continuing Appropriations Act, 2013."

  1. I do not understand? The entire towpath trail? Or sections, or what? Forever, or for how long?

Is any sections open? South of Massillon, or north of Akron? Where can one get more info?

  4. This is all that is said:
    "Towpath Trail Closure
The National Park Service has closed the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail from Hillside Road to Stone Road in Valley View. A section of the trail is not passable due to hazardous conditions caused by erosion. Please respect all signs and closures."

Do we have any idea for how long?
