"We have lost one our members..."

This was the subject line of an email we recently received from our friends at MCBC. We were greatly saddened to learn that Walley Brown, regular customer and active member of the Medina County Bicycle Club, had passed away Saturday Feb. 24th.

Walley always brought a warm friendly atmosphere with him when he visited the store. He had the unique abilbity to make all those around him feel like best friends. He will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Sue and all who were affected by his passing.

Critters

We've had uninvited guests in our attic and basement in Peninsula for quite some time, so we finally decided it was time to handle the problem. Today marked the third catch in as many days.

Snowstorm Aftermath

Well, it's been a week now since the big snowstorm that hit the area. With the warmer temperatures this week, our parking lot is turning in a giant slush pit, but here's what it looked like just as we started to dig out last week.

You can see a few more pictures here.

Pic of the Week

Yesterday, Medina Service Manager Don Barnett was asked if we would be closing due to the winter storm. Don simply replied: "Absolutely not, our work is much to important to close just for a little snow!"

Here's the pic of the week:

I'd be really mad at the guy that put foot prints in my snow!

Plan Ahead

We've been glad that many people have been taking advantage of our winter tune-up special. We've also been amazed of the number of non-traditional bikes that we've had in the Peninsula store recently. Within the span of one week, we had two tandems and four folding travel bikes brought in for tune-ups.

We always try to tell people that now is the best time of year to get your bike in for its annual tune-up to avoid the spring rush. Don't wait until a week before TOSRV or GOBA! A good example of this is one of the folding travel bikes we got in recently. The owner is planning a bike trip in China. During the course of going over it, Derrick found a crack in the frame. Even though it's not a brand of bike that we normally carry, we were able to get in touch with the manufacturer, and they told us that they will be able to get in fixed.

We had to completely strip all of the components off of the bike before shipping it back to the manufacturer, and once they fix it and send it back to us, we'll need to re-assemble it. Since the customer is not leaving for their trip for another month from now, we'll have plenty of time.

We've been named one of Raleigh's Top 25 Dealers

We've just been named one of the Top 25 Raleigh Dealers by Raleigh America, who makes Diamondback bikes as well as Raleigh bikes. Aside from giving us something to blow our own horn about, this is a nice honor because it gives us a place on Raleigh's "Heron Council." The Heron Council is a chance for shops like us to give direct feedback to Raleigh on how they do business, most importantly, the kinds of bikes and other products that they offer.

Medina News

The staff at Club Med took a big blow last week with the (temporary) departure of Keith Heffernan, our top MTB tech and all around great guy. Keith also was the go-to guy for BMX and skateboard ordering and has passed that torch to our own Chris Walters. Chris may be young but his passion for BMX and cycling in general is astounding! (that's right...I said "astounding!"). Good luck in Utah, Keith, keep in touch.

To also help fill the gap Petch has hired Scott Jessup to step in and help. New to the area, Scott brings with him a solid background in the bike biz and seems to fit right in with our team here.

I want to extend my thanks to Doug for coming from our Peninsula store to help round out the staff here in Medina. It must be a bite-in-the-ass to drive 25 minutes to Club Med when you are so close to The Pen. You are to be commended Sir.

Who's this guy talking about?

Pic of the week

I am an inexperienced blogger, but from what I've seen so far I have formed at least one opinion - Blogs are better with pictures! So I am going to make an effort to post a picture each week that I think my co-workers and other readers of this blog will appreciate.

So now for some inspiration to get out and ride despite the weather:
